ارتقِPrivacy policy — IRTAQI
Last updated: 19 October 2026
IRTAQI is a free Quran reader with no ads, no paid tier and no tracking. This policy explains what information leaves your device, when, and why.
The short version
- You never need an account. Everything in the app works without one, and without an account your bookmarks, marked words, favourites and playlists stay on your device only.
- The microphone is used only while you recite, and only if you allow it. Your voice is recognised on your device by the app itself. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
- If you sign in with Google, the app keeps a copy of your bookmarks, marked words, favourites and playlists in a private file in your own Google Drive, so they can follow you to your other devices. Nothing is stored on servers of ours.
- We never sell, share or advertise with your data. There are no ads, no analytics, no crash reporter and no advertising identifier in the app.
- You can delete everything — the Drive copy from inside the app, and the rest by uninstalling it.
What stays on your device
The app keeps these in its own private storage on your device. They do not leave it unless you sign in (see below):
- your bookmarks, with any names you gave them;
- words you marked in the mistake-review feature (مراجعة الأخطاء);
- your favourites and playlists;
- your settings and the page you were reading;
- recitations, tafsir, translations and Warsh pages you downloaded.
If backup is turned on for your device, Android may include the app’s data in your device’s own backup to your Google account. That is Android’s feature, controlled from your device’s settings; we have no access to it.
The microphone (التلاوة)
The recitation feature listens to you recite and follows along on the page.
- The app asks for microphone permission the first time you start reciting. You can refuse; everything else in the app works without it.
- The microphone is on only while a recitation session is running, and you start and stop it with the microphone button.
- What you recite is recognised on your device, by a speech model built into the app. No internet connection is used for it.
- Your voice is not recorded, not saved and not sent to us or anyone else. The words the app thinks you got wrong are shown in pink while you recite and cleared when you stop, unless you tap one to keep it as a marked word.
The app can be wrong about your recitation. It does not replace a qualified teacher.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional and uses Google Sign-In. We never see or store a password.
The app asks Google for one permission: to keep its own file in your Google Drive’s app folder (the drive.appdata permission). That folder is private to this app and hidden from your list of files, and the permission gives the app no access to any other file in your Drive. The file holds a copy of what you create in the app:
- bookmarks — the page or ayah, and any name you gave it;
- words you marked as mistakes — which word of which ayah;
- favourites — which surahs or ayah ranges;
- playlists — their names, and which reciters and surahs they contain;
- when each of these was made or changed, and a list of which of them you deleted and when, so that a deletion on one device reaches your others. Deletions are forgotten after 180 days.
The file is stored by Google in your Drive and counts against your own Drive storage. It is used for one purpose — keeping these things the same on every device you sign in on with the same Google account. We do not receive it, and the app has no server of its own that could.
Google Sign-In also tells the app your account identifier, name, email address and profile picture link. They are used on your device only — to show who is signed in, and to tell one account from another on a shared device — and are not sent anywhere.
If the app crashes
The app itself sends no crash reports. If you installed it from Google Play and your device shares usage and diagnostics information with Google, Android and Google Play may send Google technical details when the app crashes or stops responding. Google shows us those details — where in the app’s code the problem happened, the device model and the Android version — but not who it happened to. This is controlled by your device’s settings, not by the app.
Downloads and streaming
When you play, stream or download something, the app fetches it directly from the service that hosts it:
- recitations — from everyayah.com. A recitation you have not downloaded is streamed from there as you listen;
- tafsir and translations — from quranenc.com and cdn.jsdelivr.net;
- the Warsh mushaf’s pages — from inter-ecom.com, a server of ours that does nothing but host those files.
Like any website, each of these sees your device’s IP address when it sends a file, and which file it sent. The app sends them nothing else — no account, no identifier and no cookies. We do not control the privacy practices of the services that are not ours.
Sharing an ayah
When you share an ayah, the app hands its text to your device’s share menu, and it goes only to the app you choose there.
Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone — for reciting, as described above.
- Internet — for downloads, streaming and sync.
- Notifications and running in the foreground — to keep a recitation playing with the screen off, with its controls in the notification. The app sends no other notifications.
The app does not ask for your location or your contacts.
What we never do
- Show ads, or use an advertising identifier.
- Use analytics, or track what you read or how you use the app.
- Sell, rent or share your information with anyone.
Deleting your data
- Signing out stops syncing. The data on your device stays where it is, and the file stays in your Drive for your other devices.
- Deleting your Drive copy — الإعدادات ← الحساب ← حذف النسخة من Google Drive — deletes the file from your Google Drive and withdraws the app’s access to it. The data on your device is not affected.
- You can also remove the app’s access, and its file, from your Google Account: Security → Your connections to third-party apps & services.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the device.
We hold none of your data on servers of our own, so there is nothing else for us to delete on your behalf.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Signing in is optional; a child can use every feature of the app without an account.
